Have you ever had the chance to share your faith?
If you have, I commend you. That’s incredible! But I know for most of us, those opportunities are often few and far between. And even when we get those chances, we’re sadly prone to letting them slide by us.
What’s the price?
The question I’m here to ask is this: What does it cost you to share your faith? What exactly is it that you have to give up for the price of sharing Jesus?
The answer is nothing – except fear. Sharing our faith isn’t easy, which is what makes it sometimes feel embarrassing, or uncomfortable. Perhaps the question I should really be asking is…
What does fear cost?
If we don’t step out of our comfort zone to reach someone in need because of our fear, what does that cost us?
It may seem like it doesn’t matter, but if you honestly think about it, What is the cost of not sharing your faith?
The answer: perhaps someone’s soul.
I’d never thought of it this way until recently, but it’s true. What if God put you in that exact circumstance with that exact person solely for the aim of sharing Jesus with them?
Meaning that if you don’t go through with it, their soul is clutched even tighter in the devil’s hand. All because we were scared. That’s not to say you’re the only hope someone has for salvation, and that if you miss the chance God can’t reach them another way. But we do need to remember that God uses us to fulfill His Great Commission.
We have to step out.
I’m not saying it’s easy – it’s not. You read the stories of amazing missionaries like D.L. Moody, and it appears simple. It isn’t in the least.
But that doesn’t mean we shouldn’t do it. Just because it’s challenging, or embarrassing, doesn’t mean it isn’t worth doing.
Our will or God’s will?
In the Great Commission, Jesus tells His disciples (and by extension, us) to spread His message to the ends of the earth. So by not doing that, does that mean we’re going against God’s will? I don’t know, it’s just something to think about.
Either way, the truth is this: If God asks us to do something, is it not our duty to try and do it? He gave His son for us, so is it the least we can do to give some of our time to Him?
Right vs. Easy.
The choice between what’s simple and what’s the right thing to do has always been a difficult one. It’s always easier not to say anything, and to instead hide your faith. But does that make you any different from any other non-Christian?
There are good people who aren’t Christians. You can’t just put it up to luck that “they’ll see me and know I’m a Christian”. Yes, you should act like one, but that can’t be everything.
In the end, what would feel worse: embarrassment at having someone shun your attempt at telling them about Jesus, or knowing that if you had stepped out, you could have saved their soul…but didn’t?
Now please, this isn’t a guilt trip. Jesus isn’t disowning anyone for being nervous. But I hope you know that you can do this. I have faith in you, and so does Jesus. It’s such an awesome experience to share your faith, and one Jesus wants you to live out. On top of that, it literally saves someone’s soul from eternity with the devil and brings them to live in eternal paradise with Jesus.
Now isn’t that something? The power to send someone to Heaven rests in your hands. The only question…
Will you step out and spread Jesus’ message?
